Stay with the baby
Your baby needs to get comfortable with and you and it needs you. Spend as much time with the baby as possible. Ask the hospital if you can keep the baby with yourself after the delivery.
Let their feet touch you
Whether it’s your arm or your leg, your baby’s feet should stay in touch with while nursing. If it’s difficult, let the feet touch a pillow or the arm of the chair, they should be in touch with something.
Go belly to belly
Your stomach should be touching your baby’s stomach. This way, your baby won’t have to turn her head for latching. Point your nipple towards the nose of the baby and not her mouth; let her lift her head.
Remain patient
Both you and your baby learn how to do this process. Don’t count the minutes your baby has spent on one breast. Don’t get angry or stressed if the baby is fussy or not latching on properly.
Have frequent sessions
You will need to feed the baby 7 to 12 times a day in the beginning. Babies have small stomachs and they digest breastmilk within 2 hours. Don’t skip a session.
